General Information

The deadlines and tasks related to the final examination and the diploma thesis are posted on the faculty final exam page, and we ask you to take the following additions into account.

Nanotechnology and Materials Science Specialization

The final examinations of students in the Nanotechnology and Materials Science specialization are organized by the Department of Physics (as the parent department). The diploma thesis must be sent electronically to the final exam coordinator of the parent department by the deadline, and you must also register for the final exam with them, in addition to and simultaneously with the Neptun registration.
  • Department of Atomic Physics: Gábor Erdei
  • Department of Theoretical Physics: Sándor Kugler
  • Department of Physics: Titusz Fehér
  • Institute of Nuclear Techniques: Szabolcs Czifrus
The exact procedure and question list of the final examination depend on the MSc specialization.

Theses, Supervisor Evaluations, Reviews

We continuously collect and make available the theses, supervisor evaluations, and reviews on the appropriate websites of the parent departments (for password-protected pages, the final exam coordinator can provide further information):
  • Department of Atomic Physics
  • Department of Theoretical Physics
  • Department of Physics
  • Institute of Nuclear Techniques

Guide to Formatting the Diploma Thesis

Just like BSc theses, the diploma thesis must also include the signed Statement of Independence directly after the internal title page. You must also declare in the thesis-and sign this section in the printed copy-that the content of the electronically submitted and printed versions is identical.
We particularly draw attention to the fact that theses submitted to the Department of Physics must include one copy each of the thesis abstract in English and in Hungarian.

Question List

The question lists for the individual specializations can be found on the specialization pages.

Scheduling of the Final Examinations

We expect to publish the preliminary schedule in mid-December on the final exam websites of the parent departments.
  • Department of Physics

Typical Procedure of the Final Examination

The exams are held in person.

  1. The student presents their diploma thesis (15 minutes). The usual format is a computer-based presentation, preferably using the student's own laptop; a projector is provided.
  2. The committee asks questions related to the thesis and/or the presentation (approx. 10 minutes), assessing the candidate's familiarity with the relevant literature and theoretical background. Both the committee's spontaneous questions and the reviewer's questions may appear, and the answers contribute to the grade for the defense.
  3. The student receives one topic from each of the two topic groups in the question list. The committee selects a few points from each topic for detailed elaboration (typically 70-80% of one topic and 20-30% of the other). Preparation time is at least 25 minutes.
  4. The student is examined on the assigned topics. The committee may also ask questions touching on other points of the topics (approx. 20 minutes).

Parts of the examination may be conducted in either Hungarian or English at the student's request. If you wish to present a Hungarian-language thesis in English, please notify both the final exam coordinator and the committee chair at least two days before the exam.
